part one: love

ok, finally, here comes part one. i've been busy, cut me a stinkin break (i'm lookin at you kirk).

- God the loving father

this is the "new testament" God, as some people would view it. He is shown to us through Jesus, who was all about love and reaching out to the lost. this God is all about mercy and grace. i've heard mercy and grace distinguished like this: mercy is not getting what we do deserve and grace is getting what we don't deserve. this God loved us enough to send His Son to die for us. His Son loved us enough to take a horrible, humiliating death on a splintery tree. this God says "let me take your burdens." Jesus took His love to the farthest extent the Bible says love can be shown: no greater love has anyone than this: to lay down his life for his friends.

we are invited into a family! the family of God! what kind of amazing love is this?

this love, this Father, is seen as the forgive-all, no grudges, no punishment kind of God. some people would take it to say that you can do whatever you want as long as you ask God to forgive you.

but is this right? for there to be all mercy and all grace would mean that there is no justice. but the bible describes a God who is just as well. part two soon...
