erwin mcmanus: "the barbarian way"

When Christianity becomes just another religion, it focuses on what God requires. Just to keep people in line, we build out own Christian civilization and then demand that everyone who believes in Jesus become a good citizen. It's hard to imagine that Jesus would endure the agony of the Cross just to keep us in line. Jesus began a revolution to secure our freedom. ... Perhaps the tragedy of our time is that such an overwhelming number of us who declare Jesus as Lord have become domesticated- or, if you will, civilized. We have lost the simplicity of out early faith.

hey Harrison... what you said is soo true... that is why Christianity is a relationship and not a religion... i am taking a break from my Hindu paper to see what you had been saying your blog... i know one thing i have been thinking as i write this paper... when we think we have to do so much stuff for us to be "good" Christians it is like saying hey Jesus what You did on the cross was good enough let me help earn my right to Heaven... just some thoughts going through my head... well, it is getting late and i am going to up all tomorrow finishing my paper... but just thought i would share since you asked for comments... i am just thankful that we have Jesus and He is the only one who died and rose again so we can direct access to GOD... Romans 15:13 :)

I definitely believe in the simplicity of faith. It's what the Bible teaches to be true (eph. 2:8-9). It's true that so many people try to fabricate their relationship with God based on works, but all He really wants is people to praise Him and trust in Him.

hey linley, thats for the comment. it is awesome to know that we don't have to earn salvation. Jesus already took care of it. all He asks in return is everything we are. kinda scary in an exciting kinda way...

anonymous- thats right. i kind of wonder sometimes what in our "religion" is true biblical stuff and what is tradition. it's hard to get past the "Christianese"- the language we have invented along the way.
